Dear Mr Seignol,

On 18.06.1998, I had an accident with smoking nitric acid (100%).

This is the description of the accident circumstances.

After having put on my gloves and my protective glasses, I did fill a beaker with smoking nitric acid. When the beaker was full, I knocked against it. As a reflex, I gripped the falling beaker with my right hand.

The acid then overflowed on my glove that immediately went into fire. I put the fire out with tap water and started to remove the bits of glove from my hand. Then in the same minute, I started to rinse the chemical burn of my hand with the complete contents of a PREVIN solution Mini DAP. Apart from a yellow coloration of the skin on the splashed area due to nitric acid, there was no trace of injury. The doctor I saw after the accident said no further care was necessary. After a few days, the yellow coloured skin went away. I do not have any after effect. I was able to go back to work on the same day.

Yours faithfully,

Horst Henkenschuh
