The use of the DIPHOTERINE® solution at SCA Hygiene Paper

"The same caustic splashed on the same skin produces different effects if it is treated with or without the DIPHOTERINE® solution"

SCA HYGIENE PAPER
STEMBERT - BELGIQUE

April 25th 1997

Dear Madam,

Our company, Belgian subsidiary of a Swedish group, produces paper for domestic and medical use in the plant located at Stembert (East of Belgium).

We produce 57.000 tons per year and we employ over than 400 persons.

Our industry needs to use chemical products, among which some of them are particularly corrosive, such as 96% sulphuric acid and 30% sodium hydroxide in solution.

We use the DIPHOTERINE® solution since 1989, and we are satisfied by its efficiency.

For example, we would like to report you an accident that occurred to one of our foreman in 1990.

This person was dismantling a measure pump of sulphuric acid. Following a false manoeuvre, he was splashed with micronised sulphuric acid on the face, the forearms and on a part of the back that was exposed because of his leaning position.

He immediately rinsed his face and his arms with a the DIPHOTERINE® solution Autonomous Portable Shower (DAP) that has just been installed at this place. Unfortunately he forgot his back because after having stood up he did not realise that it was injured by the chemical product.

Later, after having changed his clothes, he noticed that his back was full of micro burns due to the tiny drops of the acid fog, when on the face and the fore arms there was no injury.

This accident shows that the same caustic splashed on the same skin produces different effects if it is treated with or without the DIPHOTERINE® solution.

We authorise you to use this letter in order to promote the use of the DIPHOTERINE® solution.

Best regards,
