This is a recent news item from Spain: how an emergency medical service, the Madrid “SAMUR” (the emergency medical service), equipped with Diphotérine®, was able to intervene in an attack with a corrosive substance which happened right in the middle of the street in broad daylight.
The head doctor of the SAMUR deemed the use of Diphotérine® “frankly beneficial” for the victim.
A new case of domestic violence.
The emergency medical service (SAMUR) is with this 42 year old Romanian woman in the Retiro neighbourhood of Madrid. It would seem that her husband, also Romanian, was waiting for her in front of this building. He had a water bottle filled with acid in his hand. As she was coming out, he threw it on her causing 2nd degree burns to her face, thorax, hands and legs. Just before her transfer to the La Paz hospital in Madrid, the woman was treated with a product which reduces burn damage.
“In this case, we used a product which is available in our department, DIPHOTERINE®, which is a very little used product, that is to say, that we are one of the rare departments in the world which have it, it neutralizes the action of the possibly corrosive substance and normally the severity of the lesions decreases.”
Since a chemical was involved, the emergency medical service team (SAMUR) had to protect itself with special outfits. During the attack, there were 2 slightly injured persons: one of the couple’s sons, 19 years old, who tried to avoid the attack as well as a neighbour who was splashed by a few drops of acid. On Monday, traces of this substance still remained on the wall and on the ground in front of the building. The police force has taken samples to determine its composition, but it is thought that it could be a solvent used in the construction industry which contains hydrochloric acid.
Since the beginning of the year, 54 women have already died as a result of domestic violence.

Being disfigured, we’ll see if will be so easy for her!
That is what the husband of Elena declared when he was being held by police.
It was not only her face, but also her hands which were burned by corrosive acid.
Horribly painful burns, hence the importance of the application of DIPHOTERINE® by the emergency medical service (SAMUR), a product which reduces the effects resulting from burns, especially pain and which is used by only a few emergency medical services in the world.
“We completely block the progression of the burn which is beneficial to the patient, it completely eliminates the victim’s pain because the product has been eliminated and because of this the patient immediately feels better.”
“The emergency medical teams that intervene use DIPHOTERINE®, they have 5 litre extinguishers, with 5 litres one person can be decontaminated without any problem ".
The husband, the presumed attacker, was held a few hours later when he was found hiding in a hangar belonging to friends. A police car from the Parla police station went to Lafuente Street where he was located and captured as he took refuge in these buildings.
Elena, who had found work after being separated from her husband, is still in La Paz hospital suffering from burns on 10% of her body. The suspect does not have a judicial record and no legal complaints have ever been brought against him.
